More details about Castle Rock Retreat:
Spacious, comfortable, cozy, private and convenient are just a few of the words that accurately describe this newly constructed, mountain-contemporary home.
This well-appointed home is reached via paved, state highway that connects downtown Durango and Purgatory Resort, plus a 1.3 mile, well-maintained, gravel, mountain-neighborhood road that is accessible by all passenger vehicles in summer (all-wheel-drive required during snow season). This road passes a private, alpine lake that is accessible by residents and guests of the neighborhood. The open gravel parking area allows space for three vehicles directly in front of the home.
Stepping through the front entry foyer, guests will find themselves in the great room with mountain views that are hard to overlook through the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows. The glass doors between the living room and the main-level deck lead to one of the outdoor seating areas, with mountain views that impress even the most experienced mountain traveler. Castle Rock itself, is one of the main cliff-like peaks seen in this view and is a popular hiking destination, accessed via the Elbert Creek Trail. Inside the living room is a large sectional sofa, which faces a wood-burning fireplace, large TV and the spectacular views.
From the living room, the open floor plan leads to the dining room, with formal dining table seating for six, plus seating for four more at the adjacent kitchen island countertop. The kitchen is appointed with most items to satisfy the discerning home chef, plus custom tile and granite, contemporary appliances and room to prepare a large meal. The BBQ grill on the main deck adds another cooking option.
The mountain view from the kitchen and adjacent bar area, is of Engineer Mountain. One of the area’s iconic peaks, the 12,968 foot mountain is a popular hiking and mountain biking area in summer and passed by all travelers on the famous San Juan Scenic Byway when driving to the town of Silverton and beyond.
Also on the main level of the home, is the master bedroom with king-sized bed, ensuite bath and yet more panoramic views. The master bath includes dual vanities, a large, walk-in shower and custom tile decor.
Completing the ground level is a powder room half bath and laundry closet with full-sized clothes washer and dryer.
A staircase from the living room leads to the second floor, and a loft area that is open to, and overlooks, the living room. This loft makes a nice additional seating area with sofa and book cases, a reading nook, or a secondary gathering spot for some of the group when needed.
Possibly one of the most unique features of this home is the covered deck on the second level. This outdoor ‘living room’ includes a sofa, chairs, coffee table, gas fireplace and once again, spectacular mountain and forest views. Guests find themselves gravitating to this spot even though the home offers multiple areas of lounging comfort.
Also on the upper level of the home are two additional bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom includes a king-sized bed and beautiful views. The other bedroom offers flexible sleeping arrangements via a bunk bed configuration which includes a full-sized bed and three twins beds. The full bath between these bedrooms includes tub, shower and dual vanities. Finishing the upper level is a home office for the traveler who needs the occasional work/study space.
Stay at this home to experience style, comfort, convenience, beautiful views, contemporary mountain design and an elegant gathering spot in Durango and Southwest Colorado.
Please be aware that the road is accessible to all passenger cars in summer, but requires all-wheel-drive, or four-wheel-drive, medium to high clearance vehicles in snowy, winter conditions, and is not recommended for street motorcycle travel. Please contact us with any questions regarding vehicle access.
Please note there is a security camera outside on the front of the home to monitor snow. It is motion detected and pointed high to see driveway and road. There are no other cameras inside the home.
